Last updated 1 September 2026. What Beat Instrument Identifier collects, why, and how to reach us about it.

What we collect

When you upload a track or use "Record live", the audio file you provide is sent to our backend for analysis. We store that audio file, along with the results we compute from it (BPM, rhythm/beat markers, likely instruments and their confidence scores, and a waveform preview) so that it appears in your History list.

We do not require an account, login, or any personal details (name, email, phone number) to use the app. We do not collect device identifiers, location data, or contacts.

Microphone access

The "Record live" feature asks for microphone permission only when you tap it. Audio is captured solely to create the file you're recording - it is not accessed in the background and is handled the same way as a file you upload.

Analytics, ads, and third parties

This app has no analytics SDK, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. Your audio and analysis results are not shared with, or sold to, any third party. The only place your data goes is our own backend server.

How long we keep it

Uploaded audio and its analysis results are kept until you delete them yourself from the History screen. There is no automatic expiry - if you don't delete an entry, it stays on our server.

Improving the app

This app doesn't use a trained AI model that learns from your data automatically. Instead, the developer occasionally reviews a sample of stored audio and its analysis results by hand, to find and fix real accuracy problems (for example, an instrument being detected that isn't actually in the track). This review is done directly by the developer, never outsourced or shared with a third party, and is never linked to your identity, since the app doesn't collect any identifying information in the first place. If you'd rather your uploads weren't used this way, delete them from the History screen - deleted entries are not reviewed.

Children's privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
